The coastal territory of the hero-city of Sevastopol used to be ideal for hosting bases for ships of any level, from Greek triacontors to Soviet cruisers and destroyers. Today, it is recognized as one of the best stretches of coastline on the Crimean Peninsula for recreation. But, the reason for its success with the military and vacationers common: it is — 30 excellent bays. First, they are long, narrow, winding, so they are excellent fortification objects of natural origin. Secondly, all the bays on the territory of Sevastopol City Council are protected from piercing cold winds. They do not freeze and are bounded by a long line of beaches, enlivened by original landscapes, which increases their attractiveness in the eyes of vacationers.
The eight-kilometer Sevastopol Bay is branched into 20 smaller but truly legendary bays — Matyushenko, Holland, Korabelny, Artillery and Khrustalny. Next to it there are several more stellar bays — Balaklava Bay, Laspinskaya Bay and Blue Bay. Each of them has its own legend, history of use and a stable contingent of guests.
Blue Bay is located in the extreme southwest of the Crimean Peninsula and the vast territory of the Sevastopol City Council itself, not far from Cape Chersonese, a non-archaeological reserve with the same name. Next door to it is Cossack Bay, so the entire coastal neighborhood, built up by private resorts and dachas of citizens, has the same name.
Blue Bay is small and unlike most of the local bays has the form of a neat crescent. The place of its contact with the Crimean land is called the beach «Blue Bay», which is loved by the citizens and guests of Sevastopol. The beach is covered with multicolored pebbles. Its central part is quite civilized — a lifeguard station, retail outlets and miniature private cafes. The farther from the center, the more «wild» the beach becomes. But this does not upset its guests. After all, not only various civilization attributes of rest in the Crimean way, but also the amount of anthropogenic waste, represented by cigarette butts, scraps of polyethylene, beer caps and shells eaten boiled shrimp. By the way, as on most beaches of Sevastopol, in the Blue Bay is forbidden to vacation with animals. And, as well as everywhere in Ukraine, it is forbidden to drink alcohol with subsequent bathing.
By the way, due to the peculiarities of location and circulation of water masses, the coastal waters of the Black Sea in this area is 2-3 ºC warmer than in general along the coast of the Crimean peninsula. Due to the remoteness from industrial objects, these waters are clean and have a special shade — the color of «Berlin blue». People distant from the fine arts call it clear blue. It was the basis of the name of the bay.
Another feature of the Blue Bay is its landscape. It is a low rock massif, in which the waters of the Black Sea made picturesque surf niches, deepened bays-baths for their own recreation and bare rocks, putting on the surface the order of their occurrence. During the Second World War the Soviet troops used the peculiarities of the local relief. In the Blue Bay was stationed 35th coastal artillery battery, which contributed to the prolonged capture of Sevastopol by the Nazis. To date, the remains of the fortifications erected by the artillerymen have been preserved in the area of the Blue Bay.
Thanks to such objects as the Blue Bay, Balaklava, Khersones, many other monuments and museums, holiday in Sevastopol can bring a lot of pleasure even to the most demanding tourists, who have traveled the whole Crimea and visited all the resorts of the Mediterranean.
