The name of the city of Saki comes from the toponym «Saki» — the ancient Persian name of the Scythian tribes who worshiped the deer, in the Scythian language called the same word. According to another version from the Tatar language, the name is translated as «health», which connects this version with the history of this place, which has always been famous among those seeking health and healing, and for thousands of years of its fame has given health to probably hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of people.
Saki Lake is a unique gift of nature, its healing mud and brine cure a wide range of diseases (about 100), including infertility. The lake is located in the center of the city, and to be more precise — the city extends around it. It is known all over the world, along with Baikal and Ladoga, and its mud exceeds the content of useful substances or the Dead Sea in 3-10 times, which was established as a result of research scientists. Back in ancient times, the first «resort» appeared on its shores, where Roman legionaries, wealthy Greeks and Scythians came to be treated. According to the scientist Gaius Pliny the Elder, it is known that in the western part of Taurica in the I century. there was a city Parasin, which was treated with «land that heals all wounds», in the II century. the city under a slightly modified name Parosta mentioned Ptolemy. In more recent times, famous people not only from Russia, but also from France, Poland, Italy and other countries came here for treatment.
Thanks to archaeological excavations it is known that settlements around Saki Lake existed before our era. Here was found a lot of evidence of past eras, the remains of buildings and many household items, which can now be seen in the Museum of Antiquities of North-West Crimea a few minutes drive from the city in the village of Pribrezhnoye, where the excavations of the Greek-Scythian settlement Kara-Tobe and reproduced the world’s only Scythian farmstead. Near the lake itself on the territory where today the buildings of the city rise, unfortunately, the ancient buildings have not survived in view of the constant attention to this area of man — each new power built here its own, so today in the city limits the most ancient buildings belong to the XIX-XX centuries.
Among the pre-revolutionary architectural monuments of the city are the church of St. Elijah built in 1903, secondary school No. 4, which is more than one and a half centuries old, the building of the City History and Local History Museum, which houses the only exposition on the territory of the CIS, dedicated to the history of mud treatment. 
Among other attractions of the city is the Resort Park with ponds and fountains, which grows about 80 species of shrubs and trees, including exotic and rare, many of which are long-lived. It is a favorite place for guests and residents of Saky.
