For these couple of wonderful days.
In the magical New World
I’ve seen everything in a new light,
And a new light in my soul!
V.A. Gilyarovsky
The beauty and charm of this amazing corner of the earth was appreciated two thousand years ago by the ancient Greeks. The place, today called New World, in those distant times they called «Paradise» — that is, paradise. Why such a loud and promising name? Because it is a wonderful, paradise in the literal sense of the word place. Rest in the New World at any time of the year is unforgettable and brings a lot of positive emotions
Many fans of traveling and discovering the most beautiful places of our planet are told by photos — even they reflect the unique atmosphere and originality of the New World. Even more desire to visit here cause numerous admiring reviews — odes to New World, left by tourists who came to the village to rest. And, indeed, this place is worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
The history of this beautiful corner of the earth began in time immemorial. Here lived the Greeks, who left a monument of their time — the ruins of the Bosporan fortress near the village of Veselogo, then the Genoese. In one of the surrounding mountains in ancient times there was also a cave monastery. Traces of human life in Paradise go deep into the past for millennia, and it is not surprising — in such places people have always wanted, want and will want to live. Sunny, warm Crimea, Novy Svet and its other wonderful places will always attract people with their favorable, healing climate and nature of incredible beauty.
Before 1874 Paradiz was owned by General Kherkheulidzev, who laid out a large grape garden near his estate. Fame to the sparsely populated village came only at Prince Lev Golitsyn, who bought it in 1878. Golitsyn expanded the vineyards and established here the production of champagne wines, which later became the pride of the Empire. One of the champagnes produced by Golitsyn in 1900 won the Grand Prix trophy at the World Exhibition held in Paris. As a result, in 1912 Emperor Nicholas II himself came to Paradise to have a rest, with whose easy hand the village was renamed Novy Svet. According to legend, during a wine tasting, the Tsar, having tasted the fragrant drink, said: «Now I see everything in a new light!», and so the name of the village was changed. However, its essence has not changed, which is still fully reflected in the word Paradise.
The nature of New World is picturesque mountains, mysterious grottoes, clean beaches, colorful capes, paradise bays and endless sea surface. From all sides of the village encircled the mute giants — Mount Sokol, Karaul-Oba, Koba-Kaya, as if wanting to enclose, protect from the outside world. And today there is only one road from the village — from the side of Mount Sokol to Sudak, there are no other approaches to Novy Svet. The territories surrounding the village are part of the reserve «Novy Svet», established to preserve the unique natural fund. From the middle of the village and all the way to the coast stretch relict groves of juniper trees, growing only in ecologically clean areas. Stankiewicz pine trees — strange, fascinating trees with twisted trunks and curved branches — are surprising in their forms, atypical for the local area, but harmoniously blending with the surrounding landscapes due to their bizarre shape.
Another amazing natural attraction is Mys Kapchik Cape, reminiscent of a fairy-tale dragon forever asleep near the coast. It goes into the sea for several hundred meters, breaking away from the shore with a sharp line. The cape divides Blue, in which legend has it that pirates hid their treasures, and Golubaya (Tsar’s) bay. In the last one, having come on vacation in Novy Svet, Nicholas II bathed — hence the name. The largest is Green Bay, which forms the coast of Novy Svet and got its name thanks to the emerald color of the water.
The variety of natural landscapes makes holiday in New World interesting for everyone. Here you can sunbathe, walk in picturesque places, enjoying the air, filled with the aromas of juniper, pine, mountain herbs and the sea, riding on all kinds of water transport, diving, having fun on water rides, climbing mountains.
However, as Crimea always suggests, New World is not only beautiful nature. Visit the ruins of the ancient fortress, Golitsyn’s champagne wine factory, wine history museum, Golitsyn’s crypt, the prince’s guest palace built in the XIX century in the style of a medieval castle, the estate where he lived with his family. Take a breathtaking walk along the Golitsynskaja-tropa and make your own discoveries of the New World, which are impossible not to do here!
