Many visitors to New World come here just for it. This downright breathtaking New World attraction is one of the most famous. Golitsynska trail skirts the entire Koba-Kaya mountain, separating Green and Blue bays, and leads tourists all the way to Karaul-Oba through the main attractions of the village, opening up incredibly beautiful panoramas and interesting places.
As you can guess, the appearance of this trail Novyj Svet is owed to Lev Golitsyn, who was the owner of the village since the late 19th century, made it famous and added to its landscape several more interesting places that have become landmarks today. Among them are a champagne factory and two palaces, the main architectural treasures of the New World.
The trail was cut into the steep slope of the Koba-Koya mountain in the late XIX century, its total length is 5.4 km. Walking along it, workers carried wines and champagne produced at the plant for storage in Golitsyn’s Grotto. Today, visiting the trail and grotto is one of the most interesting excursions in the New World.
The trail starts from the Green Bay and leads along the slope of the mountain at a height of 30 meters above the sea water. Walking along it, it is impossible not to feel the adrenaline rush: the sharp precipice from below and the overhanging rock massif from above take your breath away, although the Golitsynsky trail is absolutely safe. After going around the mountain, the trail leads to a large spacious grotto about 40 meters high and wide, which is an interesting natural and architectural landscape. In medieval times there was a cave Christian monastery here, and under Golitsyn, brick niches were built here for storing wines, which have survived to this day. This grotto is also called the grotto of Chaliapin, who is rumored to have once performed here. During the prince’s reign, concerts really took place in the grotto, tables and chairs stood on the stone terrace, and Golitsyn held wine tastings here. Today, in addition to tourists, guests of the music festival gather here every year, thanks to the fact that Golitsyn’s grotto is characterized by excellent acoustics.
Passing the grotto, Golitsyn’s path leads to the precipitous shore, from which opens a picturesque panorama of the Blue Bay and Cape Kapchik. According to local legends, in the times of the ancient Greeks and Taurians, pirates hid their treasures in this bay — isolated by the mountain and the cape from the view, the bay was a very favorable place for these purposes.
Having rounded the beach, the trail rises to Cape Kapchik, which is a truly fabulous picture. The cape, which goes far into the sea, seems to many people to be some ancient giant animal that has fallen asleep on the warm shores.
From the cape there is a beautiful view of the Blue Bay, in which a century ago Nicholas II himself sunbathed and bathed during his visit to the New World. No wonder that this corner of the village was the emperor’s choice — crystal clear blue-greenish water makes this beach one of the best places for swimming in the village. The Blue Bay ends with the mountain Karaul-Oba, on the western slope of which the ruins of the Bosporan fortress, built during the reign of Tsar Asandra, have been preserved.
From the Tsar’s beach the path turns perpendicular to the coast, leading deep into the relict juniper groves of the New World. Juniper trees grow only in ecologically clean areas, and here — in Novy Svet, from Tsarsky Beach its groves reach the very center of the village. Walking through the grove, you can see real old-timers — 500-year-old juniper trees, as well as many interesting, unusual and bizarrely shaped trees.
Gradually the juniper grove descends into the city. This is how the Golitsyn Trail ends — with intoxicating juniper aroma and fabulous scenery. Seeing the sights of Crimea — a fantastic grotto, a pirate bay, an unusual cape, a beach where the last Emperor of Russia rested and, of course, magnificent views from the trail to all the picturesque bays of the New World remain in your memory. Such walks remain in your memory for a long time, making you feel as if you have visited a fairy tale.
