The first mention of Rivne dates back to 1283. It flourished in the Middle Ages under the leadership of Maria Nesvitska, who achieved the Magdeburg Law for Rovno. In the XVII century the whole Rivne land participated in the war of liberation under Bogdan Khmelnitsky.
