It is known that the territory of the city has been inhabited since ancient times: settlements here existed in the Copper Age, then in the Bronze Age, in the times of Kievan Rus. Since the middle of the XVIII century these places became the home of fugitive peasants from Russia, Ukraine and Moldavia. People who lived here were engaged in fishing, cattle breeding, farming, growing grapes and making wine. When in the 1940s the construction of a shipyard began in the bay of the Dry Liman, the scattered peasant farms were territorially united, and the settlement received the status of a town in 1973.
Today Ilyichevsk is one of the most promising cities of Ukraine not only from the economic point of view, but also as a tourist destination. Sandy beaches here stretch for 12 km, near them — a lot of recreation centers, cafes, sports fields, squares, fountains, discos. All vacationers have access to a variety of water attractions.
