
Vorokhta is one of those fairytale corners of Ukraine, once visited, you want to return again and again. For many years holiday in Vorokhta all year round attracts tourists from all over the country and abroad, and the fantastic nature of the Wooded Carpathians leaves no one indifferent.
Vorokhta is a small urban-type settlement in Ivano-Frankovsk region with a population of only 4 thousand people, located near the border with the Transcarpathian region on the bank of the Prut River. The village is located on the territory of Karpatsky National Nature Park, known for the diversity and richness of flora and fauna. Mountains Petros, Breniebeskul and Hoverla rush up around the village. The latter is the highest mountain in the country (2061 meters) and Vorokhta is the main starting point for those who decided to visit the highest point of Ukraine. Here you can see the unique landscape of the Carpathian Mountains, the slopes of which are covered with ancient beech, fir, spruce and other beautiful forests.

The foundation of the settlement is attributed to the XVII century. According to legend, it was named in honor of a fugitive from the Tsar’s army — soldier Vorokhta, whom the villagers loved for his wisdom. For centuries Vorokhta lived a quiet and peaceful life, Carpathian mountaineers — Hutsuls, engaged in crafts, carefully kept the ancient customs, traditions, language and spiritual culture. Changes in the life style of the Hutsuls in Vorokhta began only at the end of the XIX century, when in 1884 the railroad was laid to the village. Gradually it became famous as a sports and tourist center, a land whose invigorating air and the beauty of nature returns health and well-being. Boarding houses were built here, a ski school was opened, and since Soviet times Ukrainian athletes began to be trained in biathlon, skiing and ski jumping.
Today Vorokhta is one of the most famous sports, recreational and tourist centers of Western Ukraine and the Carpathians. People come here not only for contemplating the landscapes of the Carpathians, sung by poets and writers, but also for recovery of the organism, active rest, it is a popular climatic and sports resort. At the same time, the customs and traditions of the local way of life have not been completely lost — many residents of Vorokhta are still engaged in crafts, and in local cafes and restaurants you can try delicious dishes of national cuisine.

The history of the village going back centuries could not but leave traces in the form of architectural monuments. The most famous of them — built in 1654-1657 years Church of the Nativity of the Virgin — a monument of wooden Hutsul architecture. Tourists are also attracted by viaducts (arched railroad bridges) built over the Prut River in the XIX century by the Austrians — the Old Austrian Bridge, the Arched Bridge, as well as various tunnels that are part of the railroad complex. Modern buildings — houses and cottages made in the Hutsul style — also fascinate the eye.

Vacation here is interesting at any time of the year. In winter Vorokhta turns into one of the most famous ski resorts Carpathians, where lovers of active recreation come from all over the country. In spring and fall the local nature delights with off-season landscapes, and in summer you can make fascinating hiking, horseback riding, biking trips through the fabulous forests and valleys, swim in waterfalls, lakes and rivers, do «quiet hunting» — picking mushrooms and berries.
