Every corner in Crimea is notable for something. Some cities and towns are known as major resort centers, such as Yalta, Eupatoria, Alushta, others — as places where you can relax in close proximity to the amazing nature of the peninsula, among them — Simeiz, Foros and others, others are famous for their interesting history, such as Kerch, Feodosia, Sevastopol. In the village of Popovka, known, first of all, thanks to the festival «KaZaantip Republic», which has long ago received the status of the most famous event attraction of the Crimea, tourists are also waiting for an exciting vacation. And not only thanks to the festival — even if you stay in such small settlements, vacation in Crimea is memorable and leaves pleasant impressions, and there are many reasons for this.
The village of Popovka is located on the Tarkhankutsky Peninsula — the western tip of Crimea, northwest of Yevpatoria. It was known to tourists long before the largest electronic music festival on the territory of the former USSR «KaZaantip Republic» was moved here from the village of Veselogo in 2001. Founded in the late XIX century, the village attracted people by its location in a picturesque area on the Black Sea coast with one of the largest sandy beaches in the Crimea with fine light sand.
A pleasant climate with hot summers, clean sea water — all this combined with a very long beach width of 50-100m. made Popovka one of the best places for those who want to come to the peninsula to relax on the beach, bask under the rays of warm sun, sunbathe and swim. It is here that all the conditions are best disposed to enjoy a beach vacation.
Other natural treasures of Popovka, besides the beautiful and cleanest beach, are the lakes. The village is surrounded by them from the north and south. Donuzlav in the north is the deepest in the Crimea and the largest lake in the Black Sea area of 47 square kilometers. And in the south it is Oiburskoye salt lake with an area of 5 square kilometers with solonchaks on the side of the village. Since 2007 a yachting and sports town is being built on Donuzlav, and many fans of recreation on yachts come here. It is interesting that in 1961 when digging a canal through the embankment separating the lake from the sea, the remains of a ship of III-IV centuries BC were found.
In 2001 the annual electronic music festival «Republic of KaZaantip» was moved to Popovka from the village of Veseloe, which made recreation here even more popular and attracted young tourists. Now every year thousands of electronic music lovers from all over the world gather near the village for a few days, have fun, dance and relax. On such days it is hard to believe that the population of the village is actually only 160 people — it seems that this is one of the epicenters of club life in the world, where everyone who is not indifferent to such festivals, music and just interesting large-scale events seeks to visit.
Despite the fact that Popovka does not represent any of the ancient sights of Crimea, architectural gems or outstanding natural objects, there is no modern infrastructure for recreation, every year here comes a lot of tourists who want to spend time enjoying a quiet peaceful vacation. The only exception is the time of the festival, when the goals of the visitors are directly opposite. Everyone who spends a vacation in Popovka, finds something different here, something that makes you come here again and again.
