How to Get There: From Zaporozhye by shuttle bus or by your own transport you should drive 55 km south along the international highway M-18 "Zaporozhye-Melitopol" to Vasilievka, where you will have to turn left and drive another 140 km along the regional highway P-37 "Vasilievka - Berdyansk" through Tokmak to Berdyansk.

Berdyansk is a small town on the coast of the Sea of Azov, the most famous attraction of which was Berdyansk Spit — a strip of land width from 40m to 2km, going into the sea as much as 18 km! The history of the city of Berdyansk roots in antiquity — back in the III millennium BC in the area of tracts Near Spire and Sweet Liman lived people. Remains of Neolithic and Early Bronze Age settlements were found in these places. However, these lands were described even earlier — written information about the territories where today Berdyansk rises, were given as early as Pliny the Elder and Herodotus in the V century BC. They called this area «Agria» («abundant», «excessive») and «Berds» («rich»). Obviously, the latter variant served for the name of the river flowing here, and later for the city. Time passed, and by the 17th century there was already a small settlement called Verdi.

The emergence of modern Berdyansk refers to 1827godu, when on the shore of Berdyansk Bay began construction of the port, which served as an active development of the city. Berdyansk received the title of city in 1835. — After the construction of the port, it quickly developed as a merchant and industrial center. By the beginning of the twentieth century. operates more than 50 large and small enterprises. The most widely developed were fishing industry, horticulture, viticulture, cattle breeding. At the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, these industries were joined by the health resort sphere — it was then that the therapeutic properties of the Berdyansk estuary mud were discovered, because of which this city is still considered one of the best mud cures in Europe.

Today people from all over Ukraine and abroad come to Berdyansk. Here it is very convenient to combine a simple relaxing vacation at the sea and treatment: gynecological diseases, diseases of the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, respiratory organs. Therapy is carried out with the help of mud and brine estuaries, which have healing properties and made Berdyansk famous far beyond the borders of the country.
