Karolino-Bugaz is a small resort village in Ovidiopolsky district Odessa region, which is located 50km southwest of the Ukrainian Little Paris, as they call one of the most famous cities in the country. Many people believe that the village owes its interesting name to one of the outstanding women of the XIX century — Karolina Sobanska, with whom, according to popular belief, Pushkin himself was in love. However, historians refute this hypothesis: in fact, the first part of the name is the name of one of the owners of the village Karol Scibor-Markhotsky, and Bugazom it was called since its foundation in the 1770s, from the Turkish word translated as «loose sand». This is how the current name of one of the most popular resorts on the Ukrainian south coast was born.
Today the population of the village is only about 2 thousand people, but in the holiday season, which lasts here from mid-May to September, it increases many times at the expense of visitors.
