The Greeks were engaged in agriculture, growing a variety of crops on the fertile lands, but now and then faced threats — the favorable position near the bay and good land became the reason for constant raids of Scythians, with whom the townspeople fought throughout the history of Kalos Limen. This led to a whole system of defenses, the ruins of which have survived to this day. One of these battles, but already with the Sarmatians, led to the complete ruin of this prosperous polis. And then, as in the situation with other similar cities, it was owned by the Genoese, Crimean Tatars, who founded not far from the ancient Greek ruins of a new city called Ak-Mechet, and with the annexation of the Crimea to Russia, it became part of the Russian Empire. From that moment the new town began to blossom — Count Vorontsov established here grape and tobacco plantations, on his order in 1838 was built Christian Church of the Holy and Righteous Zachariah and Elizabeth.
Today, there are evidences of all former historical phases in the town — the Kalos Limen Historical and Archaeological Reserve reminds of the ancient Greeks, the perfectly preserved church tells about the imperial period. All these are the main attractions of the city, visited by all its guests.
