In the distant 1662 between the rivers Bystritsa Samotvinskaya and Bystritsa Nadvornyanskaya A. Potocki founded the city of Stanitsa. Potocki founded the town of Stanislaviv. It was a fortification, the main purpose of which was to protect Poland from the devastating raids of the Crimean Tatars. The development of the city was promoted by the fact that immediately after its foundation, it was granted magdeburg law, and in 1663 the coat of arms of the city was approved. And already at the beginning of the XVIII century Stanislawow took a significant place among the commercial and handicraft cities of Poland.

In the same year it was occupied by Soviet troops and renamed Stanislav, which became the center of the Stanislav region of Soviet Ukraine.

The Great Patriotic War swept through its streets with a heavy, destructive wave. The city was occupied by Nazi invaders, who killed a large number of the population.
