The glory of Polyanitsa village, located in the southwest of Ivano-Frankovsk region near the town of Yaremche, is explained simply — it is here many years ago was founded, which has become today the most famous in the country mountain ski resort «Bukovel». Polyanitsa village was first mentioned in documents in the early XIX century — in 1820, but it is very likely that people lived here long before that due to the beautiful terrain and climate. The village is surrounded by picturesque mountain peaks: Sinyak (1665m), Khomyak (1542m), Dovga (1372m), Chernaya Kleva (1246m) and Bukovel (1127m). Due to this location, the village, situated in the bowl-shaped valley of the Prutets River, is protected from cold winds and is famous for its stunning mountain scenery: if you step outside and look just above eye level, you will see the formidable giants — Carpathian mountains soaring high into the sky.
Along with the mildness of the climate, it should be noted that it is also beneficial. The village is located at an altitude of 910 meters above sea level and is surrounded on all sides by dense ancient forests Carpathian National Park — the mountain air literally saturates the body with health and energy.
The origin of the first name Palyanitsya, which was transformed into its present name in 2008 to simplify pronunciation, is connected with two theories. According to the first one, it originated from the word «poloniny», which is often called «Polanyi», while the second one says that the name «Polyanitsa» literally translates as «scorched place». Today only 615 people permanently reside in the village — here you can enjoy a really quiet, peaceful vacation alone with nature.
What can you do in Polyanitsa village? There are plenty of options for recreation: in winter it is, of course, skiing, sledding, snowmobiling and even dog sledding, and in summer — biking, horseback riding and hiking through picturesque tracts, mountain slopes and forests of fabulous beauty, picking berries and other gifts of nature.
