How to Get There: From Nikolaev you can get there by shuttle bus or by your own transport in three ways: - drive 61 km south through Zhovtnevoje and Kamenka to Ochakov. - drive 32 km southwest along the international highway E-58 "Nikolaev-Odessa" and, turning left, drive another 38 km south along the territorial road T-1513 through Kamenka village to Ochakov. - Drive 75 km south along the territorial road T-1507 through Parutino and Dmitrovka settlements to Ochakov.

Ochakov is one of those cities that are difficult to tell about in two words. Today it is a Ukrainian resort town, and holiday in Ochakov is gaining popularity among tourists from all over the country and abroad, and once it was one of the largest medieval cities of the Northern Black Sea coast and about it tell the sights of Ochakov, which in the city and its vicinity are dozens. Everyone who wants to relax by the sea and get acquainted with one of the most interesting corners of Ukraine with a rich history should visit here.

The city of Ochakov is located in the place where the Bug and Dnieper waters merge and flow into the Black Sea, in the south of Mykolayiv region of Ukraine. To its west is beautiful Odessa, to its east is proud Kherson, and to its north is the beautiful city of Nikolaev. And such a neighborhood already makes it interesting to visit, but this is only one of the advantages of Ochakov, including its rich history.

The combination of steppe and sea climate, abundant land, convenient geographical location of this place could not but lead to the fact that people have lived here since time immemorial. It is known that settlements existed in the place of modern Ochakov at the dawn of our era: presumably, in the I-III centuries.Then there was a Sarmatian city of Alector. Slavic settlements, the remains of which continue to be found by archaeologists, were here in the IX century, it was the southernmost outpost of Kievan Rus. Then the masters of these lands became the Tatar-Mongols, one of the most famous rulers of which — Khan Mengli Girei, and erected here Ochakov fortress with the city in 1492. At the beginning of the XV century. the city is captured by the Turks, under which it became one of the largest medieval cities with a population of about 20 thousand people. They called the city Achi-Kale («fortress by the sea»), and this name served the emergence of the modern — Ochakov, so transformed the Turkish name in Russian, when in 1788 the city became part of the Russian Empire. Due to a large-scale fire after joining Russia, Ochakov turned from a large settlement into a small county town — many people left to live in Odessa. Gradually, the city began to develop as a resort destination, and today it is perceived by many tourists as a beautiful Black Sea resort.

In Ochakov today there are a lot of sanatoriums and recreation centers, tourists with different interests come here: entertainment, opportunities for quiet secluded and cultural rest, recovery with therapeutic natural resources — there is everything here.
