Located in the West of Ukraine, at the junction of the East European Plain and the Carpathians, Ivano-Frankivsk region occupies about 14 thousand square kilometers. The region consists of 14 districts with the administrative center Ivano-Frankivsk.
History of Ivano-Frankivsk region is rich in events: it was a part of Poland, Austria-Hungary, and the USSR, and in 1991 it became a part of independent Ukraine.
Ivano-Frankivsk region is ideal for recreation and tourism. On its territory there are such famous resorts as Yaremche, Sheshory, Vorohta, Bukovel. A large number of tourists come here at any time of the year, but especially a lot of them in winter. And this is not for nothing, because there are excellent conditions for lovers of skiing. This region is also famous for its wealth of mineral waters, which contributes to the development of sanatoriums for the treatment of various diseases.
Special attention should be paid to the natural sights of Ivano-Frankivsk region. In the south-western part of the region there are high mountain massifs of the Carpathians, and on the border of Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions there is the highest mountain Ukraine — Hoverla (2061 meters high).
On the territory of Ivano-Frankivsk region there are such natural reserve funds as national natural parks: Karpatsky, Galitsky, Gutsulshchina, nature reserve «Gorgany», regional landscape parks Dnestrovsky and Polyanitsky.
There are many rivers flowing through the region, one third of which are mountain rivers. Well, Carpathian waterfalls amaze many tourists with their beauty.
Besides natural sights, Ivano-Frankivsk region is rich in architectural ones, there are more than 3400 of them in the region. There are historical monuments in almost every settlement, which creates excellent conditions for the development of tourism.
