On the southern outskirts of the town of Yaremche, in Ivano-Frankivsk region, there is one of the most beautiful and famous waterfalls of the Carpathians — Proboy. The Prut River, on which Yaremche stands, is not very deep, not very wide. It is a typical mountain river, which flows mainly in the gorge, with all its attributes — rapids, rolls, waterfalls. However, the beauty of Prut waterfalls is unusual even for the Carpathians, which do not leave hundreds and thousands of tourists indifferent.
The waterfall Proboy is small, its height is only about five meters, but thanks to a good location, not far from the tourist center, this monument of hydrology of Ukraine attracts thousands of tourists every year. Additional points of reference when searching for the waterfall are the nearby restaurant «Hutsulschina», made without a single nail according to Carpathian tradition, and the souvenir market, one of the two in Yaremche. However, due to the large number of visitors, the prices at the market are quite high. In addition to simply visiting the waterfall, tourists are offered to be photographed in Hutsul folk costumes against the backdrop of natural beauty.
Above the waterfall is built a bridge, which is known for the fact that from it often jump into the basin behind the waterfall, which allegedly reaches a depth of thirty meters. From the bridge you can also admire the waterfall, but to discuss this beauty with companions right on the spot is unlikely to get — the noise of the water drowns out almost all sounds. 
The waterfall in the Prut has very strong underwater currents, which make swimming there extremely dangerous for life. Therefore, those who want to swim in the mountain river are recommended to go a few dozen meters upstream, where the Prut has a more calm and predictable character. If you happen to visit Yaremche in winter, you should also visit the waterfall. Water in the frost acquires fanciful shapes, in which you can see the most unexpected outlines.
Human activity in the Carpathians has affected not only the mountains and forests, but also this picturesque waterfall. Of course, it seems unlikely, but this is only at first glance. It turns out that back in the last century, when the Prut was rafted with timber, the waterfall was three times higher! The reason for the reduction of its height is called explosions, which wanted to increase the depth of the river bed. In this case it would be much easier to pass the rafted timber. The rafts were indeed easier to raft, but the waterfall suffered. One can only guess what it looked like before those changes. But despite the fact that now we see a very different waterfall from what it once was, Proboy was included in the list of the first hundred nominees of the «Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine» award.
The picture of the waterfall’s beauty is complemented by the surrounding nature. Not far from Proboy, on the right bank of the Prut River, there are the so-called Gothic Folds.
In the rocky cliff you can see the outcrops of Cretaceous rocks, which are more than 60 million years old. These folds were formed at the time of formation of the Carpathian ranges, and they can safely be called a decoration of Ukrainian Carpathians. Apart from the Gothic Folds, above the Proboy waterfall, there are other attractions in Yaremche — Dovbusha Rocks — a mysterious place, covered with the darkness of centuries and legends, which folk tales associate with one of the most famous leaders of Carpathian folk avengers — opryshky.
Vacation in Yaremche can bring many pleasant surprises, one of which is the Proboy waterfall. Their number is very large, thanks to which Ivano-Frankovsk region is rightfully proud of its jewel — the city on the Prut, its waterfalls, rocks and original Hutsul culture.
