Not far from the village of Bubnishche is a place that everyone should visit if they are partial to history. It is created for romantics, daredevils and just connoisseurs of beautiful views. Welcome to the rock-cave complex «Rocks (caves) Dovbush»!
Once there was a sea, at the bottom of which were formed rocks of sandstone up to 80 meters high. Now, after all the natural disasters, these rocks are at an altitude of 668 meters above sea level, and attract tourists, climbers and mountaineers not only from Ukraine, but also foreigners. There is enough space for everyone — the main rock massif occupies an area of 200 meters by 1 kilometer. In addition to the main massif in the forests are enough individual rocks, some of them reach a height of tens of meters. Many rocks have such bizarre outlines that they have their own names — Austrika, Kolobok, Lyalka, Witch, Knizhka.
The rocks (caves) of Dovbush have seen a lot. In pagan times there was a sanctuary where stars were studied and worshipped, later, in princely times, when Christianity spread in the area, there was a skete (monastic settlement) on the Dovbush Rocks. The place was strategically important, so it would be unreasonable to allow it to be controlled by monks alone. For this reason, Yaroslav Osmomysl, Prince of Galicia, built a fortress here, which was able to survive even the Mongol-Tatar invasion. Since those times there are many caves, grooves in the rocks, which served for wooden ceilings, steps in the rocks. You can still walk through them, imagining the life of your ancestors in the outpost of the Galician power.
The name of this place reminds us of the leader of the oppryshky (rebels against foreign rule), Oleksa Dovbush, who lived in the Carpathians in the first half of the XVIII century. The future vigilante was born into a poor family, shepherded sheep, and saw the suffering of his native land. Having grown up, Oleksa went to the opryshki, who were then called «black clappers». 
In the late 1730s, he already headed one of the detachments in the Carpathian region. Opryshki burned estates, robbed rich tenants, and often killed them. The valuables taken from the rich were partly kept for themselves, and most of them were distributed to poor people. Dovbush’s oppryshki had a huge support among the peaceful population, especially the poorest strata. But despite the common people and their approval of the vigilantes’ activities, they had to hide from the army in the forests and mountains. The rocks of Dovbush were ideally suited for this. Here it was possible to shelter from bad weather, hide from the enemy, and hide treasures. However, it is unlikely that there were so many of them, as legends say. Besides, in such a landscape it was very convenient to fight against the superior forces of the enemy, which also influenced the choice of the place for the base of the detachment. Oleksa Dovbush was killed treacherously, by a rich man Stepan Dzvinka. For the sake of a reward from the authorities, several noblemen began to attribute to themselves the murder of an opryshka, who had terrified the feudal lords.
Now the Dovbush Rocks (caves) are one of the most famous sights of Yaremche and the whole Ivano-Frankivsk region. Here come thousands of vacationers from different parts of Ukraine, many tourists from abroad — Hungarians, Slovaks, Poles. At the service of visitors of the reserve there are a lot of outlets, where books, souvenirs, drinks and food are served. You can go horseback riding or have your picture taken with a falcon, for example. And the surrounding mountain scenery will stay with you forever in your best memories.
