Crimea. How many interesting, beautiful and fascinating things are united on this peninsula. The centuries-old history of Crimea is rich in turbulent events, the evidence of which became the preserved sights of Crimea — mysterious, ancient, they keep the memories of the past years, centuries and eras. Since time immemorial, the cultures of different nationalities crossed on the territory of the peninsula, the Cimerians, the Taurians and the Scythians lived here. And at the beginning of the IV-V centuries B.C. Greek settlements appeared on the coast. Numerous archaeological finds tell about such a long history of the region, one of the most famous among which is the ruins of the ancient city of Chersonese in the Gagarin district of Sevastopol. It is believed that Christianity came to Russia precisely from Crimea after Chersonese was taken by Prince Vladimir.

At the turn of the XIII-XV centuries on the peninsula began to appear Tatars, who eventually formed an appanage principality here, then the Tatars were replaced by Turkish conquerors. Part of the Russian Empire Crimea gradually became part of the Russian Empire only after the Russian-Turkish war (1768-1774), and in the XX century it became part of the USSR. Since 1991 Crimea became an autonomous republic within Ukraine.
