Music festivals occupy a special place in the leisure time of many tourists coming to Crimea, and one of the most visited among them is Festival of electronic dance music «Republic of KaZantip» — this event over the years has become legendary, known far beyond the borders of Ukraine.
Every year in the summer, when the beautiful Crimean climate most of all pleases visitors, and the warm sea and gentle sunshine give a real vacation for body and soul, all tourists who come here have the opportunity to visit the largest event held in the Crimea. The electronic dance music festival «KaZantip Republic» gathers about 100 thousand people from all over the world every year.
The history of the festival goes back to 1992, when the current «President of the Republic of KaZantip» Nikita Marshunok first held the event near the town of Shchelkino on the Kerch Peninsula north of Kerch. Thus, in 2013 the festival was held for the 21st time! It got its name from Kazantip Cape, located near Shchelkino, and now it is known to many in the whole country and beyond. The event has its main symbol — the Yellow Suitcase, the image of which was inspired by the Soviet movie «The Adventures of the Yellow Suitcase». All the guests who come to the festival for the first time know that if they make such a suitcase according to all the requirements and register it in time, they can have a free vacation at the festival.
Every year talented DJs and musicians, dancers and performers, as well as all club music lovers wishing to enjoy a fun time come to «RepublicKaZantip» from all over the world. At the festival electronic music of various directions is played, interesting performances and shows unfold on several stages. Thus, the festival annually holds 4 official events: Z-Games (water and beach sports competitions), FastMarried (impromptu marriages that temporarily bind everyone within the Republic), Zimoffka (New Year’s events) and Mayovka (parade and other performances of May Day).
Every year the festival is held in a certain concept: in 2005 all Kazantip residents «flew to Mars», in 2012. — fought with the Joker and saved the Republic of Z from other superhero villains. Vacation at the festival for many becomes one of the most memorable events of the year, and many people come here again and again to plunge into this atmosphere of celebration of life.
Until 2000, the festival was held in the place where it began — near the town of Golgotha. Shelkino, then for a year moved to the village of Vesyoloye, located near from Sudak, and since 2001 the permanent venue has been Popovka village, known as one of the best places for beach holiday in Crimea. During the festival, this small village turns into one of the epicenters of club life in the world, with music, performances, people walking and dancing everywhere.
