On the central street of Rivne is located Resurrection Church, built on the site of the old wooden church, which was destroyed by fire in June 1881. The first stone in the foundation of the new church in honor of the Resurrection of Christ solemnly laid the Russian Emperor Alexander III August 30, 1890.
The new stone church was built according to the project of architect Deineko and delivered to the clerical department in November 1894. Beautiful church bronze and silver gilded items were purchased in Moscow. The panikadil, the altar cross, the chalice and the chalice disc, the ark, the Gospel and other items beautifully decorated the interior of the church. The gilded iconostasis was made in the workshop of the Kiev master A.I. Murashko, all the icons were copied from the icons of the best artists and depicted on a golden background with chasing. The pogost around the temple is paved with stone and enclosed with an iron lattice. The solemn consecration of the Cathedral Church took place on October 8, 1895. Archbishop Modest in the presence of many spiritual pastors and parishioners who filled the entire pogost and the street.
When Rovenshchina was part of Poland from 1921 to 1939, the church was under the jurisdiction of the Polish Orthodox Church. It was painted by Pochaevsky painter Volsky, the iconostasis was gilded anew, restoration works were carried out, and the church was re-consecrated on April 5, 1931.
Currently on the upper floor of the building is located Sunday Church of the supporters of the Kyiv Patriarchate. The lower church, consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael, is the cathedral of the Rivne diocese of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The Church of the Resurrection, built by the architect Deineka, is a typical example of the Neo-Russian trend in church architecture. In plan the cathedral has a cruciform construction with dominant transverse and longitudinal middle aisles. The highest chapter (dome) is placed on a massive twelve-sided drum, and the four corner chapters rest on octagonal drums. A bell tower in the form of a powerful arch is built over the main entrance. The architecture of the temple combines the forms of Russian-Byzantine architecture with the forms of local architectural traditions.
As a historical monument, the Resurrection Church always attracts great attention of the guests of the city of Rivne.
