Karaul-Oba is one of the most interesting, picturesque mountain peaks of the New World, it is considered one of the geological wonders of the world. This mountain holds secrets and interesting objects for any tourist.
Karaul-Oba is the westernmost peak belonging to the village of Novy Svet. It limits from the west the famous Tsarskaya Bay, in the purest waters of which was bathed in the last century Emperor Nicholas II during a visit to the village famous Prince Golitsyn. It is the end of the famous Golitsynskaja-tropa, the mountain seems to protect it and the unique relic juniper groves, for which Novy Svet is famous, from the outside world.
In times immemorial this mountain was a coral reef, its height is 341 meters. Then in the II-I millennia BC complex mountain massif was inhabited by the aborigines of the Crimea — the Taurians. This is evidenced by the remains of their settlements and sites found on it. Here were found objects of culture and life, fragments of Taurian ceramics, living and household premises, stairs cut in the rock corridors, one of which was later renewed by Golitsyn. But on the archaeological sites of the times of the Taurians all the wonders of this stone kingdom, as A.D. Timirgazin called the mountain in the book «Sudak. Travels to historical places», do not end.
One of the main reasons why Karaul-Oba is famous far beyond the borders of Crimea is the ancient fortress on the mountain, the remains of which have been preserved since the 1st century BC. It is Bospora Fortress, built under King Asandra. It is located on the western slope of the mountain above the high 70-meter cliff above the Kutlak Bay. This fortress was built to control the surrounding lands and protect from pirates, guarding the route Bosporus-Khersonesos. Bosporan fortress — the oldest on the southern coast of Crimea, it occupies 1.5 square kilometers. Once in its walls, fragments of which have survived through the millennia to our days, boiled life, but today it reminds of the bygone times of the ancient kingdoms that have faded into oblivion. By the way, the mountain got its name precisely because of one of the fortress structures located on the highest point of the rock — the guard tower. Everyone coming to holiday in Novy Svet must visit the ruins of the fortress on Karaul-Oba, remembering the most ancient eras.
But even on this interesting objects of this attractions of Crimea do not end. In addition to the remains of Taurian settlements and the ruins of the ancient fortress on Karaul-Oba you can see the original stone armchair cut right in the rock massif — Golitsyn’s armchair, in which the prince liked to sit and enjoy the magnificent panoramas. And the view from Karaul-Oba is really amazing: all three Novosvet bays — Green, Blue, Blue, the amphitheater of Novy Svet, from here you can see all capes from Karadag to Ayu-Dag, and in clear weather — from Cape Chauda to Aitodor.
Karaul-Oba hides many beautiful landscapes in itself. The paths winding along its slopes now and then reveal fantastic pictures to the guest of the mountain — gorges and glades among the rocks: Adam’s bed gorge covered with a carpet of ivy and ancient pistachios, Hell gorge, Paradise valley — a real wild meadow in the middle of the rocks, drowning in greenery growing right on the rock walls.
Everyone who is interested in the beauty of Crimean landscapes, ancient civilizations, fortresses and goes on holiday in Ukraine visit to the New World and one of its most mysterious mountain ranges — Karaul-Oba, will leave the most vivid impressions that will be remembered forever.
