One of the brightest and most famous peaks among the many mountains of Sudak is considered to be the legendary Mount Sokol, majestically rising above the sea between the city and the village of Novy Svet. Climbing the Falcon is an interesting, breathtaking event, which will be long remembered by any guest of the city.
More than 100 million years ago, Mount Sokol was the bottom of the warm ancient ocean of Tethys, or rather, a coral reef. It is made of limestone, the thickness of which contains the remains of the ancient past — colonial corals, sponges, algae, and the imprints of shells on the powerful slopes of the mountain are still visible today. Special geological processes have led to the transformation of Sokol from a sea coral reef into one of the steepest and most precipitous mountains in the area, admiring its power, embodying the immutable force of nature.
People gave this peak many names. The Greeks called the mountain Senator because of its proud, majestic appearance. Turkic tribes called it Kush-Kaya, and the modern inhabitants of the area translated from the Turkic name, literally meaning «bird rock», and gave it the name Falcon. Indeed, if you look at the mountain from the sea, it seems as if it is a huge bird, spreading strong wings and preparing to fly. 
This flight, which will never happen, is an unshakable stone frozen for centuries, which leads many artists and representatives of art, locals and visitors to the city to the most different thoughts and reasoning. There is a soul in this mountain, which is seen by every person who has been here.
From the south, west and east of the mountain, the slopes of Sokol are dangerous and can be climbed only by experienced climbers: the mountaineering routes here are up to the fifth level of difficulty. The tourist trail runs along the northern slope of the mountain — it is a safe, beautiful trail that is easy to follow even for untrained people. Not only juniper, cedar and pine trees grow on the slopes of Sokol, but even such a rare and elegant shrub as jasmine. And the splendor of the view from the top of the mountain is beyond words. An incredible panorama of the Black Sea, the coast of Sudak and the entire southern coast of Crimea, capes Meganom, Alchak-Kaya, Hys-Kule-Burun, from here you can see even Mount Babugan-yaila. Such a seemingly small height of the mountain at 475 meters above sea level, allows you to see the vast expanses and admire the most beautiful natural panoramas. All connoisseurs of vivid impressions, fans of active recreation, nature lovers, climbing the mountain and the view of Sokol will leave the most unforgettable, vivid memories. 
And being on the top and contemplating the opening views, as it is known, gives also incredible energy, which can be given only by the most amazing sights of Ukraine, charges with power and the most positive emotions.
An interesting object on the mountain are also the traces of the medieval cave monastery at the foot of Sokol. Despite the fact that the ancient monastery has not survived to this day, this place is of great interest to all tourists, who are always eager to explore the remains of the ancient cult object.
