Everybody knows that no two people are exactly alike. Each of us has a completely different character, special habits and predilections. Just like every dolphin. All of them, even the same age, even members of the same dolphin pack, are completely different in temperament, abilities and tastes. One dolphin can immediately attach to people, and the other will have to be convinced of the friendliness of man. It happens that dolphins choose their own trainer. According to some criteria known only to him, the dolphin «falls in love» with a particular person and obeys only him. And simply refuses to work with others! It has long been proved that dolphins recognize their trainers even in special clothes that completely hide the face and figure of a person. And the trainer, in turn, must distinguish by the behavior of the dolphin in what mood — cheerful, sad or angry. Despite their peaceful disposition, dolphins can be very willful, stubborn and resentful. 
But central to this profession is the ability to be both consistent, logical, and capable of improvisation. For example, the trainer must accurately calculate for the fulfillment of which task the dolphin deserves one fish, and for what he should give as much as three. By the way, the dolphin «school» encourages not only food. Reward for diligence and ingenuity can be a toy or even a gentle touch. Here, as in the upbringing of a child, the main thing is not to overdo it. Do they punish naughty dolphins? And how, because the school is a school! It is unacceptable to raise a hand on a child, so the trainer will never hurt dolphins. Of course, not having fulfilled the task, the dolphin will not immediately get a tasty fish, which will serve him as a lesson. But even an egregious «two-timers» will be fed at the proper time. A very unpleasant punishment for the dolphin is when the trainer … just leaves. Remember how you as a child clutched your heart if your best friend or girlfriend said resentfully: «that’s it, I’m done with you!» — and turned away. In that moment, you seem willing to do anything in the world just to get your friendship back. That’s probably what a dolphin feels the same way. 
Naturally, the intelligence of the trainer plays a certain role in the ability to improvise. He can not do without the ability to solve logical problems, readiness to instantly make extraordinary decisions, the ability to observe and remember, persistence, poise and courage. But sometimes there is a special contact between the trainer and the dolphin, when the trainer as if from inside begins to understand his ward, and the dolphin reacts not only to the commands, but even to the emotions of his trainer. In other words, the trainer becomes a bit of a dolphin, and the dolphin becomes a bit of a human being….
A spectator visiting the dolphinarium usually sees no more than 5-6 employees, though in fact there are more than thirty of them in the staff. They are a veterinarian, a water technician, an experienced diver — a specialist in pool cleaning, «stage workers», management and accounting departments.
For 11 years of its existence Sevastopol Dolphinarium has won many awards. Its work is marked by the prize «White Eagle». Dolphinarium is the winner of the national business rating among botanical gardens and zoos of our country. In 2007 PE «Biolological Station» received the international award «Laurels of Glory». Scientific and research activity The main document that guides the Sevastopol Dolphinarium in its work is the scientific and practical program «Dolphin». Within the framework of this program the project «MOREKIT-1» (monitoring, rehabilitation and rescue of small cetaceans of the Black Sea) was developed and adopted. The project, whose main goal is to preserve the gene pool of Black Sea dolphins, involved the dolphinariums of Karadag, Yalta, Yevpatoria, Utrish and Brehm Laboratory. According to the project «MOREKit-1» all Crimean dolphinariums, including Sevastopol, were equipped with the necessary equipment to be able to rescue dolphins in distress. Thus, on the basis of the Dolphinarium in Artbukhta the Center of assistance to sick and injured dolphins is functioning.
Dolphins calmly tolerate significant fluctuations in water salinity, but are very sensitive to its purity. During inhalation water droplets together with the bacteria and larvae of various parasites in it get into the upper respiratory tract of dolphins, and then into the lungs. Our pets live in pools isolated from the sea water of Artbukhta, which does not meet international standards for keeping dolphins. The water in the pools is filtered through 15 sand-quartz filters and disinfected by chlorination. By its characteristics, this water does not differ from quality drinking water, except for salinity. If you go above Artillery Bay by helicopter or airplane, you can see an amazing picture: against the background of dark water sharply stands out an «island» of bright blue color — this is the water area of the Dolphinarium, the water in which corresponds to international standards for keeping marine animals.
