In glorious Sevastopol there are many old, interesting and beautiful buildings and structures that attract the attention of tourists and are much loved by the citizens. One of such buildings is The Palace of Childhood and Youth, located in the green heart of the city: on Primorsky Boulevard. Every tour guide will lead you to this architectural gem, and tourists can easily find it on their own, wanting to see the building, which is so proud of the city, rich in interesting sights.
The Palace of Childhood and Youth is located in the center of Sevastopol at the intersection of Nakhimov Street with the beautiful Primorsky Boulevard, considered one of the favorite places of recreation of citizens and tourists. The palace is located in the middle of Primorsky Boulevard and divides it visually into two almost equal parts. The building belongs to the sea front of the city, being one of its main beauties, and its history is as remarkable as its appearance.

From its erection in 1914 to the present day, the building has fulfilled the most well-intentioned of missions. Initially a magnificent snow-white structure made of Inkerman stone with colonnades, rotundas and statues, built in the style of neoclassicism with Art Nouveau elements according to the project of architect A.M. Veisen, finalized by architect V.A. Chistov, was erected as a health resort. Construction began in 1902, when the city realized the need to attract tourists after the closure of the commercial port in 1891, and was very slow due to lack of funds. Then its project was finalized by architect Chistov in 1908 and the construction was completed in 6 years. The city and one of its most beautiful streets got a new architectural treasure. During the years of work of the Institute of Physical Methods of Treatment thousands of people improved their health. It was the first research institute of such profile in the world, people were treated here daily with water, mud and sun baths, massage, bathing procedures, inhalations, the founders of physiotherapy — A.E. Shcherbak, I.M. Sechenov — worked here.
During the Civil War of 1917-1923, the Institute treated the wounded, as well as during the Second World War, after which the institution ceased to exist — or rather, it was moved to Yalta. Only in 1967 the building was restored according to the project of A.V. Bobkov and A.L. Schiffer, and after the reconstruction it was handed over to the city Palace of Pioneers. Then, after Ukraine gained independence, the institution received a new name — the Palace of Childhood and Youth, which it bears to this day. Today, about 3.5 thousand children are engaged here, receiving additional education in music, dance, fine arts, arts and crafts, theater, astronomy and other spheres of activity.

The beautiful snow-white building on the embankment impresses all the guests of the city, and the residents never cease to admire it. The construction of the Palace of Childhood and Youth is complex, it connects a lot of architectural forms and details, but in general the construction does not seem heavy or overloaded with elements. Rotundas, porticoes of Corinthian order, rectangular and arched windows, patterned cornices, pilasters, colonnades with round and square columns — all of this adds up to a single harmonious whole. You want to look at the building, study it, admire it, discovering new and new interesting solutions and elements. Asymmetry and different geometric shapes, combined in one building, make it unique, unlike any other building in the city, and in the whole Crimea.
It is impossible to miss the Palace of Childhood and Youth while walking around the city — the beauty of this sevastopol attraction is bright, the building stands out against the background of others, attracts attention. Every visitor of the city comes to admire it, and it is remembered as one of the most beautiful examples of neoclassicism in Krym.
