Museum holiday "Banners of Glory"

Museum holiday

«Banners of Glory», since 1999, is held annually on the eve of Victory Day on Sapun Hill — the location of the Memorial Complex in honor of the participants of the liberation of Sevastopol from Nazi invaders in May 1944.

The holiday traditionally begins at the Obelisk of Glory with a ritual of Remembrance of the fallen in the battles for Sevastopol. Flowers are laid at the Eternal Flame and battle banners from the museum’s collections are brought out.

From the viewpoints guests of the holiday watch the theatrical performance «The Assault of Sapun Mountain», played by members of the club «World War II» of the Sevastopol Association of Military History Clubs together with servicemen of the Ukrainian Navy and the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.

A field kitchen is organized for the invited veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The participants of the festival have an opportunity to visit the Diorama «The Assault of Sapun Hill on May 7, 1944» free of charge.
