Simferopol Reservoir

Location: in the north-east of Simferopol, St. Yaltinska

Simferopol ReservoirMany locals say that even aliens are partial to this place — not once eyewitnesses spoke about strange flying objects hovering over Simferopol Reservoir, and some claim that they even saw aliens in the forests near the reservoir. The history of this sighting in Simferopol is shrouded in mystery and riddles, as is the history of all places where UFOs have been sighted.

The reservoir in a picturesque valley surrounded by Crimean mountains and hills, coniferous forests, filling the air with a wonderful pine aroma, was opened in 1955. In the summer of 1955, the dam built for the reservoir was filled with Salgir water.

The picturesque area outside the city was decorated with a huge water mirror, stretching for five kilometers in length, and in width in some areas reaching one and a half kilometers. The left bank of the reservoir became a beach, and blue water expanses were decorated with white sails of yachts. Since that time, the reservoir was called the Simferopol Sea — it was a favorite place for local residents and tourists who came to rest in the Crimea. Then a new stage came in the history of the reservoir — in 1964 this place was included in the list of natural monuments, the beach was closed, and bathing was prohibited for many years.

The fact that Simferopol Reservoir is a place, Simferopol Reservoirwhere three unique natural objects have been preserved. In one of the mountains located here is preserved cut, on which scientists analyze how the geological history of the Crimean Peninsula developed over millions of years. Another unique object is another geological wonder: not far from the village of Petropavlovka preserved petrified volcanic lava flow, which came out of the bowels of a paleovolcano about 150 million years old: it contains minerals of the Upper Jurassic period. And the third wonder is a boulder island composed of limestone from the Permian period, which preserves deposits of rocks over 230 million years old and a Paleozoic rootworm fauna. Most of the time this attraction looks like a peninsula, and in spring, when the water level in the reservoir reaches its maximum, it can be reached only by boat — it becomes an island cut off from the land. It is these unique ancient fossil objects that UFO believers explain the strange visits: according to eyewitnesses, UFOs were observed here in 1979, 1994, and 2008.

But for those who are far from believing in the unexplained, Simferopol Reservoir is a very interesting place. Today families come here again for summer vacation, and fishing fans note here an excellent catch. Simferopol Reservoir Among the inhabitants of the reservoir pike, perch, roach, bream, bream, fathead carp, carp, bleak, mayflies, taran, redfin, white amur and even pikeperch. Wonderful scenery, flower and pine scents in the air, birds singing and excellent catch — that’s what attracts tourists from Ukraine and other countries. In total, there are about six cozy and comfortable bays on the reservoir.
