The Crimean Ethnographic Museum was opened in 1993 after the return of the deported peoples to their native territory. But the history of this museum goes back to 1923, when the Department of Ethnography was established at the Central Museum of Tavrida. Since ancient times Crimea has been considered a multi-ethnic territory, where the domestic, cultural and historical heritage of peoples of different nationalities was formed for a long time.
At the end of the XX century, the museum staff conducted serious research works, during which the museum collections were replenished with works of folk art and crafts of the Crimean Tatars, Eastern Slavs, Karaites (a small Turkic nation) and many other nationalities of the peninsula.
To date, the Crimean Museum of Ethnography, probably the only place where visitors are presented the most complete information on ethnography and culture of the peoples of the Crimea. Here everyone can learn a lot about the historical ancestors of the peninsula. The collection of the museum is more than 5 thousand exhibits. Its staff prepared and held many exhibitions both in the Crimea and beyond its borders. Of course, speaking about this museum, we can not fail to mention its main exhibition «Mosaic of Crimean Cultures», which familiarizes us with cultural traditions, holidays, clothing and life of the peoples of the Crimea. It presents more than 700 exhibits.
Located in the capital of the Autonomous Republic, this museum is a kind of business card of Crimea.
