The museum began its work in 1992. To date, the museum has 6 departments: fine arts, decorative and applied arts, history, culture and life of the Crimean Tatars, history of dance, cinema and theater, music, department of exhibition and exhibition work, as well as the museum RKMI — a museum that presents exhibits related to the life of the famous pilot, hero Amet-khan Sultan. One of the brightest pearls of the museum is the collection of jewelry art: it contains magnificent jewelry that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.

The museum is constantly working on the return and preservation of monuments of material culture, decorative and applied arts of the Crimean Tatar people.

Fans of painting can admire the collection of fine arts, which presents the works of the best Crimean Tatar artists: A. Aliyev, I. Ablaev, A. Barash, Z. Trasinov, R. Netovkin, R. Useinov and many others. And collections of decorative-applied and folk art of Crimean Tatars, which include exhibits of the end of XVII — beginning of XX century will interest everyone who is interested in the history of the Crimean Tatar people, its customs and traditions. Embroideries and collections of amazing fabrics by A. Pacemirova, K. Musureta, L. Belyalova will remind about the unique works that can be created by the hands of skillful craftsmen.
