The Chernogora mountain range stretches for 40 kilometers in length from northwest to southeast between the valleys of the rivers Cernaya Tisa and Cherniy Cheremosh. The ridge is divided into 2 parts — western and eastern. The peaks of the first are the fourth highest point of the country Mount Petros (2020 m) and Sheshul (1726 m). In the eastern part of the ridge are concentrated the other five two-thousanders — in addition to Hoverla, they are Breniebeskul (2032 m), Pop Ivan (2022 m), Gutin-Tomnatek (2016 m) and Rebra (2004 m).
Chernogora is located within the Transcarpathian and Ivano-Frankivsk regions of Ukraine, where there are many ancient villages and towns that have preserved the ancient sights and culture of the indigenous people of the Ukrainian Carpathians — the Hutsuls.
