Picturesque view of the riverThis mountain river is one of the most famous in Ukraine. It is known to all fans of rafting and extreme tourism. However, not only tempting routes attracts Black Cheremosh, because it is also one of the most picturesque rivers in the Carpathians. In the valley of this river you can see natural pictures of amazing beauty, the splendor and romanticism of which is complemented by periodic architectural treasures of Ivano-Frankivsk region: old churches, houses and other ancient buildings that attract attention.

The Black Cheremosh River is the right tributary of one of the most famous rivers in the country, the Prut, which it forms, merging with the White Cheremosh, near the village of Usteriki. The Cheremosh itself originates high in the mountains — it is fed by the purest springs born in the depths of the Chivchinskie Mountains Chernogorsky Range at an altitude of more than 1.8 km above sea level.

Black Cheremosh RiverThe total length of the Black Cheremosh is about 90 km, and its basin has an area of 856 square kilometers. It is a turbulent mountain river, on average its slope is 14 meters per kilometer. Due to its complexity, different sections of the Cheremosh have names — these are the rapids Dzembronya, Huchok, Huk, Berdy, Yavornik and others. The waters of this river are swift, fast, hitting a lot of underwater rocks, they form high waves and create that loud «voice» of the Black Cheremosh, which is remembered by everyone who at least once participated in the conquest of the river.

The Black Cheremosh is fed mainly by snow water and is considered to be more full-flowing than its «fellow» — the White Cheremosh. In spring the river floods are very turbulent, and in summer there are often rain floods, and even in low-water periods the river has all conditions for rafting. A lot of rapids and shivers, the absence of pleats makes this river an excellent place for rafting, kayaking and rafting. It is here that water tourism competitions of various levels have been held for many years. For those who prefer extreme holidays, there is a rafting camp in Verkhovina — on the territory of the Spassky estate. This rafting camp and the river itself have contributed greatly to the popularity of recreation in the ancient Hutsul village.

Black Cheremosh RiverTalking about the Black Cheremosh, we can not fail to mention the picturesqueness of its valley. The high stony banks of the river are covered with ancient dense forests — deciduous and spruce-fir. This is an ecologically clean zone of the Ukrainian Carpathians, where rare plants and animals can be found.

In the area of Verkhovyna village the narrow deep valley of the Cheremosh becomes wide, with more gentle banks. Below — near the village of Kryvorivnya, as well as within many other villages lying on the banks of this river, its natural beauty is complemented by architectural masterpieces, among which are not only houses of interesting Hutsul architecture, but also real sights, such as old wooden churches.

Whatever way you choose to spend your vacation on the Black Cheremosh — active or more quiet and contemplative, the beauty of this landmark of the Carpathians will forever leave a vivid imprint in your memory and will cause a desire to return here again and again, as many tourists from all over Ukraine and even from abroad do.
