The legendary high-mountain lakes shine in the midst of the high Carpathian mountains like magic mirrors reflecting the boundless sky. There are many legends about them, for centuries people have been in awe of these amazing quirks of nature, which were called the sea eyes among the mountains. Today, many tourists are eager to visit Carpathian high mountain lakes, who are attracted by the opportunity to see such unique natural pictures. One of the most interesting routes in the Ukrainian Carpathians to such water wonders in the mountains is the route to Lake Nesamovitom.
Lake Nesamovitoe is located on the northeastern slope of Mount Turkul of the picturesque Chernogorsky Range, at an altitude of 1750 meters above sea level — it is one of the highest lakes in the Carpathians. Although it has rather modest dimensions — 45 meters wide and 88 meters long, and its maximum depth is only 1-1.5 meters — this natural treasure impresses all who see it with their own eyes.
Sitting in a mountain hollow, in which the water mirror of the lake is nestled, it is impossible not to admire the panorama of valleys spreading below and mountain peaks piercing the clouds. Nesamovitoye offers a beautiful view of Gomul Mountain, Malye Kozly spurs and Bolshiye Kozly ridge, with their shape resembling natural fortresses and castles that seem as ancient as our world itself. Once you see such a picturesque natural picture, even the most unimpressed person cannot remain indifferent to it.
There are legends about Nesamovit, as well as about other high-mountainous Carpathian lakes, but the legends about it are frightening and tragic. Since time immemorial, locals believe that the souls of suicides and big sinners languish at the bottom of the lake, and if its waters are disturbed, a downpour will surely fall on the head of the one who intrudes into the lake’s peace. It is believed that even a stone thrown into Nesamovitoe can cause terrible thunderstorms — hence its name, meaning «furious».
Lake Nesamovitoe is of glacial origin and is fed mainly by precipitation and melted snow. Around its rocky shores there is a thicket of low mountain pine and alpine meadows. Near the lake, one can see stud, juniper and other rare herbs and plants that cover the slopes of Mount Turkul with a picturesque carpet and saturate the purest mountain air with the spicy aromas of various herbs. Unfortunately, every year the lake becomes more and more overgrown with sedges, and the area of its water mirror is shrinking. Intensive overgrowing of the lake will lead to the fact that years, maybe decades, and from this attraction of the Carpathians will remain only legends, so it is definitely worth visiting it for all those who spend their holiday in Verkhovina or other nearby villages, and wants to see one of the most picturesque, mysterious and mysterious Carpathian sea eyes.
