Hutsulshchyna Museum BuildingVerkhovyna is one of the most Hutsul regions in the Carpathians, it is here, living in an area remote from large population centers, for centuries the mountaineers of the Carpathians best managed to keep their traditions and protect them from the influence of the «outside world». Much of the life and history of this unusual and interesting people can be learned in local museums, and one of such museums is the Regional Museum of History and Local Lore «Hutsulschina».

The Museum of Hutsulschina in Verkhovyna was opened in 1938 in the heart of the village in a colorful two-story wooden house. The exposition of the museum consisted of archaeological finds and ancient objects of everyday life and art. The museum’s collection is housed in three rooms and is an exhibition of art objects, folk life and paintings by local artists.

Hutsul clothingHutsul clothing is characterized by brightness, elegant decoration, interesting ornaments — in the museum you can see Hutsul outfits in which they once got married, celebrated festivities and celebrated at various folk festivals. The collection of household items is very extensive — these are fancy old bottles for wine and other drinks, clay, including painted pots and other utensils, kerosene and spirit lamps, primuses and other common household items, which are a hundred and more years old. The museum presents folk art items — embroidered towels, napkins and other samples of artistic weaving, wooden and birch bark caskets, vases, baskets and much more.

Repeta are characterized by vividness of colors, unique conveyance of the mood of closeness with nature, which is so vividly felt in this amazing, unlike any other village in the Carpathians.
