Church of the Assumption In the ancient Transcarpathian village of Verkhovyna every guest is waiting for an exciting, unforgettable vacation — this is facilitated by the fabulous beauty of nature, remoteness from major population centers, health-improving climate, unique Hutsul flavor, the presence of ski slopes and recreation centers in the village. This religious building is the heart of Verkhovyna, for several centuries it serves as a spiritual home for all Orthodox residents. For tourists it is one of the most interesting architectural sights.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Verkhovyna was erected in XVIII — it is not only the most beautiful, but also one of the oldest buildings in the village. In addition, this church is also remarkable for the fact that in the whole Ukraine it is one of the largest wooden architectural structures. Thanks to the latter point, tourists from all over the country and even abroad come to Verkhovyna to see this unique example of Hutsul folk architecture with their own eyes. The Church of the Assumption has earned the fame of the most interesting cult landmark of the Carpathians, which should be visited by every connoisseur of wooden architecture traveling in Transcarpathia.

Church of the AssumptionThe Church of the Assumption is located in the center of the village on I. Franko Street.Franko, on all sides it is surrounded by a low fence made of wood and stone, and its decoration is also made of wood and repeating the architecture of the temple carved gates. The gate is crowned by a high vaulted arch and three domes with crosses. The church surrounded by a wooden fence and surrounded on all sides by tall trees due to the beautiful architecture of the gate and the whole complex seems truly fairy-tale, both in summer surrounded by greenery and in winter covered with a white fluffy blanket of snow.

The building of the temple has a rectangular shape, its roof is crowned with four domes, ending with openwork silver crosses. Painted in yellow, the Church of the Assumption resembles a fairy-tale gingerbread house and awakens interesting and vivid associations in the imagination.

The antiquity, beauty and uniqueness of the Church of the Assumption in Verkhovyna are worth coming here just for its sake. There are not so many such amazing buildings left, and even fewer that are so well preserved and not destroyed, not damaged and not rebuilt in difficult times for the church.
