Surrounded by the peaks of the Svidovets mountain massif, among incredible panoramas of carpets of alpine and subalpine vegetation covering the mountain slopes, in the amphitheater of the picturesque Dogyaska mountain 1764 meters high lies the real pearl of these beautiful places — the mountain lake Gerashaska. Gerashaska Lake lies on the southwestern slope of Dogyaska Mountain, beautifying the local landscape and making it even more impressive. The water surface reflects the endless sky, while all around, numerous peaks of one of the most beautiful mountain ranges of the Carpathians pierce the sky in a fantastic landscape.
Gerashaska, like many other lakes scattered on the slopes of the Ukrainian Carpathians, was formed thousands of years ago by the melting of a block of ice that broke away from a glacier. Since those immemorial times this amazing natural attraction has survived to this day. The bizarre amphitheater of mountains encircling the lake from three sides gives the panorama a special solemnity, there is an unforgettable atmosphere, which everyone should feel at least once in his life.
The lake is located at an altitude of 1577 meters above sea level and is considered one of the highest in Ukraine. Its water mirror is 125 meters long and 110 meters wide, the lake area is 1.2 hectares, but despite the impressive area, its maximum depth is no more than 1.2 meters.
On the northern side, the shores of Lake Gerashaska are overgrown with sedges, which gives it an even more unusual appearance — as if it were a piece of a forest sink, lost high in the mountains. In the crystal clear waters, warming up to 10-11 degrees in summer, one would like to swim and enjoy water procedures at the height of one and a half thousand meters. This is exactly what many tourists do, thus getting the brightest, unforgettable impressions.
