
The Museum of the Liberation Struggle is located in the building of the former Rifle Society at 23-a Lysenko Street, in the southern part of the picturesque Regional Landscape Park «Ascension». It was in the premises of the rifle society, also known as the «Kurkov Brotherhood», in 1868 held the founding meeting of the society «Prosvita», and on March 10, 1869 organized the first in Lviv Shevchenko concert.
The exposition of the Museum in chronological sequence reveals the main stages of the struggle for the Independent Cathedral Ukrainian State, and covers the period from the end of the XIX century. — to the early 90s of the XX century.
A significant place in the exposition is given to museum exhibits related to the events in Ukraine in 1917-1921. — Creation of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic, selfless struggle against invaders (samples of the then weapons, reconstruction of the uniform of the Army of the UNR, original tunic of a soldier of the Ukrainian Galician Army, documents of the Central Rada and monetary signs of the UNR).

The second hall presents documents and weapons of the soldiers of the Ukrainian Galician Army, the Corps of Kiev Sich Sagittarians from the collection of the former Museum of Military Historical Sites in Lviv (1937 — 1939).
A significant part of the exposition is devoted to the activities of the fighting units of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army on the territory of Western Ukraine. The stylization of the Museum’s interiors under the forest thickets harmoniously complements the unique exhibits. The main stages of formation and organizational structure of the UPA, activity of the Military District «Bug», petty officer and sub-staff training, medical service of the UPA are reflected. Separately exhibited is a set of underground field publications, propaganda and educational literature, illustrated leaflets, appeals, appeals. Presented are boffins — documents for monetary contributions to the fund of the OUN, UPA; insurgent clothing and things of daily use, materials of the Grand Assembly of the UHWR, honors and pictures of members of the Ukrainian Main Liberation Council.

Of great interest to visitors is the section dedicated to the history of the Ukrainian division «Galicia», which reflects the process of formation of the division, participation in the battle of Brody, the formation of the 1st UD UNA, stay of the division men in the prisoner of war camp in Rimini (Italy), personal belongings of the division men, memorable combatant honors, camp publications.
A significant place in the exposition is given to the materials that tell about Bolshevik repressions in Western Ukraine, mass exportation of Galicians to Siberia, their life and activities in the camps, the hard fate of the exported Greek Catholic priests, Ukrainian intelligentsia. Unique monuments reveal the greatness of spirit and defiance of the fighters for freedom and independence of the Ukrainian people.
An important stage of the liberation struggle is the movement of the sixties. A number of materials cover the activities of the sixties, the Ukrainian National Front and the Ukrainian Helsinki Group.
