On May 1, 1998 the Hrushevsky Museum received the status of an independent state institution. The grand opening took place on the eve of Independence Day — August 22, 2000.
It is located in the villa, where together with his family during 1902-1914 years lived internationally recognized historian, scientist-researcher, statesman and politician, chairman of the Ukrainian Central Rada, the first President of the Ukrainian People’s Republic — Mykhailo Hrushevsky.
The six exposition halls cover almost all stages of life and colossal work of the outstanding historian. A special emphasis is made on the Lviv period of M. Hrushevskyi’s activity, when Hrushevskyi’s great scientific talent as a scientist, historian-researcher, literary critic, professor at Lviv University, head of Ukrainian scientific institutes and publications: the scientific society named after T. Shevchenko, «Lyshevskyi». T. Shevchenko, «Literary and Scientific Herald», «Notes of NOSH», «Ukrainian-Russian Publishing Union» and others. His scientific works on the history of Ukraine, literature, ethnography, folklore, sociology are highly appreciated by scientists all over the world.
in Lviv, nine Presidents of Central and Eastern Europe laid a presidential garden on the memorial territory of the museum.
The circle of good friends, patrons and admirers of the museum in Ukraine and the diaspora is expanding, therefore, there is hope for further creative contacts of the museum with scientific, cultural institutions, societies and foundations in Ukraine and abroad.
