Lviv railway station

Location: Lviv, St. Vokzalna, 1

Lviv Railway StationThe Lviv Railway is rightfully considered one of the oldest in Ukraine and it can be safely attributed to the main attractions of Lviv. Its history began on November 4, 1861, when the first train from Peremyshl, whose name was «Yaroslav», arrived in Lviv. After 10 days, the directorate of the railroad received permission for regular train traffic.

The modern building Lviv railway station, built in Art Nouveau style, was inaugurated in March 1904. The doors were made of wrought iron at the factory of J. Gorecki, according to the project of the author of the station, Professor Vladislav Sadlovsky.

For passengers there were built waiting rooms with beautiful furniture and pictures on the walls, also, for the convenience of passengers, there were 70 clocks. Central heating and ventilation worked in the building of the palace. On the territory of the station there was a restaurant. Night view of the arched floors of Lviv railway stationFrom the waiting rooms to the platform passengers got through five tunnels and found themselves under a beautiful arched floor made of glass and metal — the landing stage.

Unfortunately, in the history of Lviv railway station there were not only periods of rapid development, but also difficult years. During the First and Second World Wars the station was very badly damaged. It was repaired in the interwar period, with significant reconstruction and a second floor.

As in 1879, you can get to the station from the city center by streetcar, only then it was a horse-drawn streetcar, and since 1894 the first electric streetcar line has been running.

The building was restored in 2004 to celebrate its centenary
