The most pleasant and impressive activity for any guest of Crimea will be climbing its highest point — Mt. Roman-Kosh, located on the northern slope of Babugan-Yayla massif opposite Ayu-Dag mountain.

Roman-Kosh Mountain is located on the territory of the Crimean Nature Reserve, it is the highest peak of the Crimea, its height is 1545 meters. The mystery of the origin of the name of this peak, which translates as «gorge of three mountains», has not yet been solved. Many researchers believe that the mountain got its name in honor of the name of the «spirit of the mountains», which was worshipped here by the locals for centuries.
On Roman-Kosh many centuries ago prayed to the pagan god of the mountains even ancient Taurians, whose temple was found in the valley of Gurzufsky saddle. The Byzantines, Romans and Russians climbed to the top of the mountain to worship their deities — since ancient times, the highest point of the Crimea has been honored by people.
Climbing to Roman-Kosh is a fascinating event that anyone can do. Smoothly, but confidently the forest road rises up — to climb Roman-Kosh you need not much strength, but it will take a lot of time. Half of the way passes through a picturesque pine forest, the height and width of the trunks of many trees is amazing, such an incredibly beautiful landscape is remembered for many years, especially when among the dense protected forest meets its master — a noble deer, which happens often. It seems as if this is how fairy-tale valleys and beautiful forests of magical worlds look like — carpets of yellow, white, pink and many other flowers and herbs are spread everywhere, the air is filled with their fragrance, the blue sky and the greenery reigning around create a unique feeling. There is a legend that somewhere here lives the guardian of all Crimean springs and springs — a deer with silver horns. He makes sure that they do not dry up, so that the local inhabitants — birds and animals, could always drink the purest mountain water, and if the springs suddenly dry up, he rises to the highest point of the mountain and, striking with his hoof, causes the life-giving rain on the ground. If you meet this deer, life will be long and happy, but for this you need to drink the water of all the springs and springs of the Crimea.
The most beautiful panorama opens from Roman-Kosh mountain: Babugan-Yayla plateau stretching up to Alushta on one side, on the other side — the basin separating the Main Range of Crimean Mountains from the second — inner one. Here you can see Cufut-Kale, Kyz-Kermen and Tepe-Kermen, where once there were cave cities, in the distance you can see Simferopol Partizanskoe Reservoir, Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, and the Black Sea is viewed at a distance of 150 kilometers — almost halfway.
