Uzhgorod boasts one of the oldest monuments of sacred architecture in Ukraine — Goryanska Rotunda (rotunda — means round structure). The Church of St. Anna is located in a picturesque place on the rock ledge of Antalovetska glade.
Architecturally, the rotunda itself is a round building with walls up to 2 meters thick. Inside in the form of a hexagon there are 5 semicircular niches with three windows.

The exact date of the foundation of the Goryanska rotunda is unknown. Some researchers say that it was built in XIII-XIV centuries, others — that in X-XI centuries.
Thanks to the unique frescoes, which were discovered during the renovation works in 1879, the rotunda became famous throughout Europe. Their plots convey episodes from the earthly life of Jesus Christ: «The Last Supper», «Christ before Pilate» and others.
It is believed that these frescoes were created in the XIV-XV centuries by order of Italian Druget, the then owner of Uzhgorod Castle. The frescoes have reached our time in a deplorable condition, some of them have survived only fragmentarily.
Today Goryanska Rotunda is a functioning church of St. Anna, it also plays an important role in the life of Uzhgorod, it is the place where the celebration of the city day begins.
