When coming to Uzhgorod and seeing its sights, it is worth paying your attention to the monument of garden and park art — Botanical Garden of Uzhgorod National University, which is located on I. Olbracht Street. Once there were two nut and fruit orchards on this place. And in 1946 these lands were given for the construction of the present botanical garden.
Occupying an area of approximately 3.8 hectares, the park is located on three terraces. At the moment there are about 3900 species of different plants of open ground and 1100 of greenhouse plants.

Coniferous trees, of which there are over 130 species, have acclimatized very well. They include such rare ones as: giant sequoia, evergreen and swamp cypress, Weymouth pine and others.
Transcarpathian flora counts about 400 species of plants. But there are over 150 species of mountain plants. Among them there is the flower of courage, happiness and love — edelweiss, which grows only in some places in Zakarpattya.
Visitors’ attention is attracted by the beautiful rose garden, where 120 kinds of roses grow. In addition to them, there are many other types of ornamental plants. These are gladiolus, chrysanthemums, lilies, dahlias.
And what is most interesting, in the botanical garden grow representatives of tropical and subtropical plants: mimosa, palm trees, eucalyptus, banana and even a melon tree (papaya).There is also a rich collection of cacti, which consists of more than 250 species. A greenhouse has been set up especially for them.
