Uzhgorod, the western city of Ukraine, remains as ancient as it was in the old days. Its narrow streets, mansions of the past centuries, the aroma of coffee — everything makes you think that you are in a quiet place that does not know the hustle and bustle of megacities. Historically, Uzhgorod is a multinational and multiconfessional city.
In the IX century Ungvar (Uzhgorod ) was a protected fortress of the early feudal period, where the Pre-Carpathian Croats lived. The Hungarian kingdom established its authority here and expanded its borders. The city developed economically and culturally, receiving many privileges in 1430. For centuries, the local population suffered from the imposition of an alien culture and faith.

Therefore, relations in the social and spiritual sphere were tense. Uzhgorod was changing its masters all the time. Since 1919 the city fell under the power of Czechoslovakia. And since 1938 Hungary again gained a foothold here. At the end of the 2nd World War, the Soviet stage in history began — not an easy one in every respect.
The birthday of the city of Uzhgorod is celebrated on the last Saturday of September. In most churches will begin the festive liturgy. And at the city-wide party on the Postal Square representatives of the authorities will congratulate their fellow countrymen with the next anniversary of Uzhgorod, which is famous for its thousand-year history.

The solemn procession from Kapitulnaya Street to Pochtovaya Street strikes with its splendor and color. Citizens in knight’s armor, crusader costumes and medieval dresses will march through the narrow streets of Transcarpathian Uzhgorod in perfect harmony.
The city council will honor Uzhgorod residents with their awards at the solemn city party. Among the recipients of the Honorary Distinction and Certificate of Merit one can find representatives of science, education, culture, economy, politics and even students, who faithfully serve the cause of strengthening and development of their native city.

At the traditional Golden Autumn Fair winemakers and cooks, meat processing and dairy industry enterprises will present their products. Here you can also find a suitable souvenir and buy national clothing, which is very popular among adults and children. Most of the sports tournaments will be held in the sports complex «Yunost». Therefore, fans of volleyball, checkers and chess can safely go to Zankovetskaya Street. Performances of music and dance groups will be held on Pochtova and Teatralnaya Square. Pop stars will not forget to please the citizens with their skills. And at the end of the concert there will be a grandiose fireworks display to the festive «hurrah» of Uzhgorod citizens.
