Location: 11 km on the east-west of m. Koktebel, Feodosiya district, village Nasipne, St. Pivdennoberezhnaya, 35.
How to Get There: From Koktebel by own/hired vehicle you need to drive 11 km north along the regional road R-29 ("Sudak - Koktebel - Feodosia") to the village of Nasypnoye. You can also get there by shuttle bus "Koktebel-Stary Krym" or "Koktebel-Simferopol", which go through the village of Nasypnoye. Nasypnoye.

Church of the Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary Not far from Feodosia there is a village Nasypnoye. It used to be called Nasypka. It was founded by peasants Major-General Zachary Bekaryukov, which he transferred from the Kursk and Kharkov provinces in 1804. Then the inhabitants of neighboring villages of Feodosiya district began to move to Nasypka. Not far from the turn at the very road stands the temple of the Sorrowful Icon of the Mother of God.

The church was built in 1830 on the funds of Major-General Z. Bekaryukov in the form of a cross with a single dome in the center of the building and a round apse. The dome is set on a round drum with six arched windows. A light bell tower is built above the entrance, each corner of the middle part is decorated with a column, the upper part is round. The Temple of the Sorrowful Icon of the Mother of GodEach entrance of the temple is decorated with porticoes with four Ionic columns and triangular pediments.

The church in the name of the Sorrowful Icon of the Mother of God is an architectural monument of the XIX century, an example of provincial classicism. A baptistery was built next to the church.

On the site of the modern temple in the IV-VI centuries. stood a Greek chapel, bearing the name of the Baptist of the Lord John. Around it Greek sailors established a small settlement. In the IX century during the internecine clash on the grounds of iconoclasm the chapel was destroyed. Together with it the unique library in the Greek language arranged at the building was destroyed. In the era of the Golden Horde in the XII century on the territory of Nasypnoye was formed an Armenian merchant colony. Church of the Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary The inhabitants of the colony were rich and between 1393 and 1420 built a church in honor of St. Gregory, the enlightener of Armenians. During a religious conflict between Muslims and Christians in 1618, the church was destroyed. More than 500 Armenians, who were in the building at that time, died. And in 1830 the church in honor of the icon of «Mother of God of Joy of Sorrow» was built on the place of the former ruins. The project of the temple was made by St. Petersburg architects. Some icons in the church were presented by Ivan Aivazovsky, one of his daughters was married here. Tsar Nicholas II served a prayer service in the same temple when he was on his way to Kiziltash monastery. At that time the territory around the temple was landscaped. A beautiful, made in classical style residential building complemented the architectural complex of the church. This ensemble was decorated with a beautiful cozy square and a small pond.

baptisteryIn 1937 the church was closed. First it was used as a granary, then as a chemical warehouse. Even before the war the bell tower was torn down by tractors.

The restoration of the church began in 1996. In 2000 it was re-consecrated, and since then the services have not stopped here.
