
On April 21, 1892, the birthday of Empress Catherine II, the laying of the church in the name of St. Catherine was made. The church is very ornate, bright, unusual, its architectural appearance is characterized by the opulence of design. Erected the temple in the Russian style.
Saint Catherine’s Church continued the architectural traditions of the XVII century. Its plan is based on the Greek cross, the walls on a high plinth at the corners are divided by columns. The entrance framed by a portico is located on the western side, above the entrance there is a graceful belfry. The top of the building is girdled with a system of kokoshniks, and the dome is made up of five small domes.

The entrance to it is a portico with a small belfry decorated with low, widened in the middle, columns. Five small domes, painted in blue and studded with stars, rise above the church. The kokoshniks of different sizes are decorated with a carved pattern.
In 1901-1920 the church of St. Catherine was served by priest Andrei Iudovich Kosovsky, who was shot by the Soviet authorities. In 2000, the Synodal Commission for the canonization of the New Martyrs of Russia, he was numbered among the saints. In prayers and services he is remembered as Andrei of Theodosia.

In 1937 the church was closed and turned into a warehouse. After 4 years it was reopened by the German occupation authorities. Since then it is one of the few active churches in the Crimea. One of the priests of the post-war period was Father Macarius. His name appears in the memoirs of Anastasia Tsvetaeva.
In 2002, a major overhaul of the church was started, which smoothly transitioned into the construction of other facilities. A whole complex was built, including premises for Sunday school, methodical office, library and hotel. Among the recently erected buildings is a new church with a full immersion baptismal room, which is still awaiting its consecration.
Near the church are Feodosia bus station and Aivazovskaya railway station.
