The most anticipated event of the fall in the Carpathians is the festival of young wine «Zakarpattya Beaujolais», which tentatively takes place in the second decade of November. During two days the best Transcarpathian winemakers will present in Uzhgorod up to 15 different varieties of young wine, which still retains the flavor of the sun, fragrant summer day and fresh grapes. The only condition for the participants-producers of wine — the drink must be exclusively vintage.
The festival takes place in the ancient Rakotsi wine cellars, which were cleared in the center of Uzhgorod, in the park opposite the SSU (Rakotsi Street, 2). The ancient barn building is an architectural monument of 1781. Under its stone vaults, food and drinks have long been stored. It is here, in the 70-meter long cellar, that winemakers will place their products. 
The festival is traditionally held in the format of folk tasting. Each visitor can buy a glass with the logo of the festival, which is accompanied by a card with the rules of the festival. The glass is not only a souvenir, but also gives the right to taste all wines for free, choose the best and get a liter of wine as a gift. Visitors will leave their cards with their favorite winemaker, and the winner will be the winemaker who collects more cards of the festival guests. Red paprika and selisky cheese presented here will add special spice to the tasting.
During the Beaujolais-fest in Uzhgorod, wine is not only drunk, but a lot of interesting things will be learned about it: they will tell about the history of winemaking in the Transcarpathian region, about the traditions of consumption and the peculiarities of the unique profession of a winemaker.
The tradition of tasting and celebrating Beaujolais originated in the XIX century with the winegrowers of Beaujolais region in France. Their wine was the earliest to ripen, the grape harvest began earlier than in other places, and the fermentation of the wine took place while it was being transported along the rivers. It is because of Beaujolais’ short maturation period that it retains a lightness and flavor that differs each year depending on the harvest and weather conditions.
Winemakers of Transcarpathia have adopted the tradition of the festival of young wine from France. The Zakarpattya Beaujolais Festival has already become a traditional and most anticipated gastronomic event of the fall in Zakarpattya and Ukraine.
