Peace SquareIn Mukachevo, Peace Square is called the heart of the city — it is the favorite place of recreation of citizens, the most popular part of the city among tourists, coming from many Ukrainian cities and even other countries to see the beautiful old buildings that make up its magnificent architectural ensemble.

Peace Square is formed by two streets — Pushkin Street and Peace Avenue, diverging from it in the form of a triangle. These are the main city streets, along which the residents and guests of Mukachevo like to stroll, in Hungarian they are called «korzo».

The architectural appearance of the square was formed in the late XIX — early XX century. It is dominated by the Secession style, in which the dramatic theater of 1899 and the dominant of the whole square — city hall of 1906 were built. The third main building on the square is the Cathedral Church of St. Martin from 1904 in the Gothic style, another building — the Star Hotel, where many guests of Mukachevo stay, also survived from the XIX century and built in the Secession style.

The main town square, as well as other squares in Mukachevo is small, chamber, quiet and cozy. The combination of beautiful, as if fairy-tale buildings and ancient sidewalk is especially romantic. In the center of the square there is a square with a monument to the heroes who died during the liberation of Transcarpathia from German invaders, it is surrounded by low fir trees.

Another attraction of Mira Square in Mukachevo is the monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius, erected on the side of Mira Avenue. The first printers visited Mukachevo while traveling from Bulgaria to Bohemia in the IX century, it is believed, Monument to Cyril and Methodius that it was they who contributed to the establishment of Christianity in the Carpathian region. The author of the beautiful, spectacular sculpture was the People’s Artist of Ukraine Ivan Brovdi, who was soon asked to create a copy of it for the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

Coming to the city because of the famous landmark of UkrainePalanok Castle — tourists, having visited the Peace Square, discover its other no less impressive architectural treasures. It is here that many Mukachevo sights neighbor one next to the other, and being quite different, dissimilar, they harmoniously combine with each other, causing the most pleasant emotions in the guests of the city. You can get even more vivid impressions if you visit Mira Square in January, when among the magnificent architectural beauty in the open air there is a famous wine festival «Chervene vino», where you can taste the best wines of Transcarpathia.
