Located between the majestic Crimean mountains surrounding the city on three sides and the warm waters of the Black Sea is picturesque Bakhchisaray. Few Crimean sights can compare with this medieval city in terms of beauty and impression made on tourists. The pearl of Bakhchisarai is Khansaray, the ancestral palace of the Girey dynasty, who ruled the Crimean Khanate from the mid-15th to the end of the 18th century.
Construction of the Bakhchisaray Palace began in 1519 under the watchful eye of Khan Sahib-Giray. The Gireys considered themselves descendants of Genghis Khan, so the palace being built should not have been inferior in grandeur to the residence of the khans in Istanbul. A unique complex was built on four hectares, which was drowned in «paradise gardens». Today it is the only example of Crimean Tatar palace architecture in the whole world.
For more than 5 centuries of its existence, the Bakhchisarai Khan’s Palace has been rebuilt, completed and reconstructed many times, which did not spare its original appearance. In 1736 it was burned to the ground by Khan Minikh-Giray, then it was restored by Krym-Giray. The consequence of such history of the palace was the mixture of different styles in its architectural appearance: today Khansaray is the original elements of Crimean Tatar architecture, Empire in Turkish execution, Baroque in a peculiar interpretation of architects, 
Muslim symbolism and Russian classicism. But this style disparity is united by one common quality — lightness. Most of the structures are made of wood, which was considered by the Khans to be a more pleasant material for the construction of residential buildings.
In Khansarai are collected the most interesting attractions of Bakhchisarai, sung by more than one servant of the pen. First of all, the atmosphere reigning within the walls of the palace is marvelous and unique. It is a kind of paradise, as if created to contemplate the beauty of the surrounding world, a divine oasis among the worldly bustle (the name «Bakhchisarai» translates as «palace-garden»). In the old days, in the palace parks drowning in flowers and greenery with hanging gardens and many fountains, khans spent time in reflection on the perishable and eternal. Today, the palace is still immersed in greenery, giving tourists the feeling of being in some magical corner of the world.
Khansaray is a complex of structures built as needed, in most cases erected spontaneously. 
the main buildings are: lost its original appearance during the restoration of the late XVIII century Servitor’s Corps, the Khan-Jami Mosque built on the remains of a Christian temple, the Small Mosque and the portal of Aleviz preserved from the XVI century, the Fountain and Embassy Courtyards, harem, pool garden, Khan’s cemetery, baths and other buildings. The palace itself is a two-story building consisting of the Summer Arbor of the Alhambra, the Golden Cabinet, the Embassy Hall, the Coffee Room, the Hall of the Council and Court, living and other rooms.
Each building, room and corner of the palace keep their secrets and stories, have a peculiar appearance, but of special interest is the Fountain of Tears, sung by Pushkin. Legend says that the Fountain was created by sculptor Omer in honor of the favorite wife of Khan Krym-Girey Dilyara-Bikech, who died at the hands of envy. According to rumors, Dilyara was actually a Polish noblewoman Maria Pototska, a Christian and the only foreigner in the palace and did not share the love of the khan. Krym-Girey, however, was crushed by the loss and ordered Omer to create a fountain that would embody his grief and bitterness in stone. The Fountain of Tears became a subtle expression of eternal love, and the poet A. Miskevich wrote:
Only the fountain in sad desolation is not silent, —
The fountain of harem wives, the witness of the best years,
It quietly sheds tears, lamenting the decay…..
The beauty, atmosphere and history of the Bakhchisarai Khan’s Palace can be devoted an infinite number of lines, but it is better to see this one-of-a-kind historical monument with your own eyes and feel the mysterious aroma of the Middle Ages in your own soul.
