In Soviet times, each of the four districts of Mariupol had its own park of culture and recreation with swings, merry-go-rounds and other attractions: Azovstal Combine Park, Lugopark (now Gurov Park), Primorsky Park and Central Park (now City Garden). But the densely populated industrial city demanded entertainment, so in the mid-1990s, in the very center of Mariupol, former city mayor Mikhail Pozhivanov created a stationary Luna Park, which, after several years of operation, moved to Kiev together with Pozhivanov.
