Everything in the Ukrainian Carpathians makes the soul sing, and everyone who is not indifferent to the splendor of nature understands it. Not for nothing about these places and natural treasures, which they are rich in, there are the most enthusiastic reviews from tourists who have been here, as well as folk legends. A vivid example of such a treasure of Carpathian nature is the Prut River.
Prut is one of the longest rivers on the territory of the country: its waters from the source to the confluence with the Danube make a path of 982 km, and the area of its basin is 27.5 thousand square kilometers! The Prut originates at the foot of Mount Hoverla — the highest point of Ukraine, and such a «neighborhood» of two very famous natural sights of the country could not but give birth to folk legends.
Once upon a time in one of the mountain villages lived a shepherd named Prut and one day he did not have time to return to his village and spent the night in the forest under one of the slender pine trees. At night he saw a strange dream: as if a beautiful girl dressed in all green came to him, sang him a song and stroked his hair. When Prut woke up in the morning, he saw a green ribbon on a pine tree and decided to wait in the forest the next night to see the girl again. When it got dark, she appeared, and unable to restrain himself, Prut ran up and hugged her, and when he asked her name, he heard «Hoverla» in response. Since then, Prut spent a lot of time in the forest: he and Hoverla fell in love. But one day her father, the mountain king, found out about their love and cursed the girl, and Hoverla, unable to bear her father’s anger, jumped off the cliff. Immediately a terrible wind arose, and in the morning, when the sun rose, a huge mountain appeared in the place of the valley where the lovers met. Prut searched for Hoverla for a long time and, having heard her voice on the mountain, went to its very top and never returned to people. Since then a mountain river appeared at the foot of Hoverla, which was named Prut.
This beautiful legend reflects the great love of the inhabitants of the Carpathian Mountains for those treasures that were given to them by nature. However, all the visitors who had a chance to relax surrounded by Carpathian landscapes have time to fall in love with them — even a couple of days among such beauty is enough to fall in love with these places forever!
All along the way, which the Prut waters make through the territory of Ukraine, the most picturesque pictures open to the tourist’s eyes. Prut is not less beautiful and on the territories of Moldova and Romania — in these countries from a rapid mountain river it turns into a calm wide body of water on which the ships go. Well, one of the most popular among tourists sections of the river in Ukraine is located near the town of Yaremche, where its bed forms the waterfalls Probyi and Maiden’s Tears. Here you can simply admire the beautiful panoramas or get closer to nature by rafting through the Yaremche Canyon, which is considered to be the most interesting part of rafting on the Prut. The canyon starts near the Yaremche sanatorium and ends with the magnificent probiy waterfall, the waters of which fall from the height of seven meters. The total length of the Yaremche Canyon is about 4 km, and its width ranges from 10 to 40 meters. For all fans of active recreation rafting down the Prut through this section of the river will be an unforgettable event, which will definitely want to repeat more than once!
Well, for those who prefer quiet time to active pastime, vacation in Yaremche on the Prut River will also be interesting — here you can not only swim in the warm season, but also catch fish, including trout, which is found only in ecologically clean reservoirs. Here for those who spend their vacation in the Carpathians — a lot of opportunities, as well as in any other corner of Western Ukraine. The Prut River is talked about as the most interesting attraction of Yaremche, Vorokhta and Kolomyja for a reason — you can come here only because of it, because it is the best place for those who love and appreciate the beauty of nature and seek to gain strength and recovery during their vacation.
