Almost on the very border between Russia and Ukraine, on a narrow stretch of coast between the Donetsk steppe and the Sea of Azov is the village of Sedovo. It is named in honor of G.Y. Sedov, a local native and one of the most famous explorers of the Arctic, Caspian Sea and Kolyma. In addition to the original and heroic name of the village is proud of the fact that all its sanatoriums and private resorts are located on the «first line» — at a distance of 20-100 meters from the waters of the Azov Sea. Well, and the most interesting, literally behind the village begins the territory of ornithological preserve «Krivokossky estuary».
The nature protection area has taken under its care a small Krivaya spit, which cuts through the waters of Taganrog Bay of the Azov Sea. On a small section of water area between the shore and yatagan-peninsula formed a shallow estuary. Thousands of wetland birds have chosen such a wonderful place as their home. Here they feed, socialize and nest willingly. Therefore, the main function of the reserve is to ensure the peace and safety of animals during the breeding season.

The zoological treasury of the Krivokossky Spit includes colonies of short-tailed skua, pintail, silver martin, cormorant, black-headed gull, sandpiper, sea dove and chegrava. Nearby live, but are not protected by law, yellow-bellied and leopard crested grebes, steppe polecats and bandages, which willingly feed on eggs stolen from valuable feathered fauna.
As a nature protection area, «Krivokossky Liman» appeared in 1981 by the decision of the Donetsk Regional Executive Committee. Its area is 468.7 hectares. It includes a part of the Krivaya Spit and the adjoining liman of the same name. Access of vacationers to the territory of the reserve is not restricted. The only thing that is not allowed here is hunting and disturbing the peace of nesting birds.

When the regional landscape park «Meotida» was organized in 2000, «Krivokossky Liman» became one of the nuclei of its consolidation. In addition to the ornithological reserve, the park included: «Belosarajskaya spit», «Priazovskij kapelnik», «Elenchak bakai» and «Pine crops». In 2004 they were joined by «Polovetskaya steppe». To date, the total amount of protected land has reached 14352 hectares. And «Meotida» itself with all its structural subdivisions was accepted into the family of «Federation of Euro-parks».
In addition to ornithologists — lovers of bird nests and bazaars, recently Krivokoskaya Spit began to attract the attention of archaeologists. The latter have already knocked down in search of interesting artifacts of the Meotian culture with bronze tools and good sculptures of god-kings. It was believed that this people lived in the plavnyas, on the salt lakes and swamps of the Azov region. Therefore, the area of Krivokoskaya Spit has recently been recognized as one of the most probable places to search for solid artifacts.
When planning to visit the Azov region, be sure to pay attention to the Krivokossky estuary. You might like holiday in Sedovo, where all hotels are on the first line, prices are low, there are many animals and few people.
