Silver Beach (Middle Beach)

Location: 1.5 km to the north-east of the throat of Balaklava Bay in the direction of Aya bowl.
How to Get There: by boat from the quay of Balaklava or on foot, which will not only strengthen your health, but also give you unforgettable impressions of the surrounding scenery.

Silver Beach

Every year the popularity of the resort of Balaklava is avalanching. Initially, this area was deprived of the dubious fame that Yalta and Sochi had during the Soviet Union. After all, every established urkagan, successful shopkeeper or nouveau riche, having collected a sufficient amount of money, went to spend them on any of the two most colorful resorts of the domestic coast of the Black Sea. But, such a public was not allowed into the closed Sevastopol and Balaklava, even more protected from random people. The reason for this intimacy was the base of submarines and medium-range missiles that were once housed in the rocks of Balaklava Bay.

Therefore, the vast majority of people who traditionally vacation in Crimea, only today with pleasure discover Balaklava as a treasure trove of historical sights, and as a source of exquisite beach recreation. Why exquisite? Because local beaches are categorically not designed for «masses» and for thousands of human rookeries, like gatherings of seals and walruses.

The reason why Balaklava is so refined is the lack of territory — the beaches here are very narrow. In addition, access to them is a bit difficult for those who are not familiar with the basics of mountaineering or at least with the technique of hiking.

So, the local beaches start right on the Balaklava embankment and stretch all the way to Aya Cape and its protected territory. Above them, almost at an angle of 75-80°, overhanging rocks, composed of fragile and loose marble-like limestone. The role of this stone wall can be interpreted in different ways. On the one hand, it does make it difficult for the public to access the local beaches. But on the other hand, it also protects the narrow strips of beach from the pollution inevitably associated with tourist crowds. In addition, the same wall protects the thin ribbons of beaches from possible piercingly cold winds from the north. Therefore, on all Balaklava beaches only a breeze is possible, day or night. Although, few people risk coming down here in the dark.

Nearby beach in high season

Of all the beaches in Balaklava, the most accessible is Serebryanyi or Near Beach. It is the first at the exit from Balaklava Bay and the second after the City Beach, the size and appearance of which resembles the edge of a school pool. The Silver Beach is covered with coarse-grained sand, colorful pebbles and small boulders. Above it, as well as everywhere on the coast rise rocks overgrown with rare juniper and Stankevicha pine, a relict plant of the South Coast. In the sea, along the line of the beach, Nature «scattered» a lot of multi-caliber stones. Over time, they have grown algae, which picturesquely vibrate and dance, listening to the eternal oscillation of waves. Opposite the beach, dolphins frolic and relax in the water. Apparently, the animals have also added this place to their recreational fund.

The rocks form a beautiful crescent, isolating Silver Beach from the outside world. To get from Balaklava or go to the neighboring Golden Beach, you can only by a narrow path going along the top of the cliff. Therefore, those who came to holiday in Balaklava, get to this beach and all neighboring ones, with the help of small boats. The water cab exchange, similar to the one in Venice, is located on the Balaklava Embankment.
